Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important official commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
